Brief Submission Description:
We invented the Weed-Wackin’-Walker. It was originally a joke. It is a combination of a walker and a push reel mower, with blades that turn and cut the grass when the wheels turn. It has a shield and hand brakes, for safety. It is light weight, easy to use and easy to make. When seniors mow their grass, they get Vitamin D from the sun, which improves their ability to absorb minerals, which in turn helps many health issues. Exercise improves health and increases muscle mass, which is lost after the age of about 40. When muscle mass increases, balance and independence issues are improved. Being able to make a difference in their backyard, by trimming their own grass, improves self esteem, decreasing the likelihood of depression. We hope you like our project as much as we liked developing it and learning about problems seniors commonly face.
