Gears in Motion is a independent neighborhood team. Most of our members have been working together for the last 4 years. Through FLL our team focused on a service-learning project that combined the skills and talents we developed in school with a project to benefit our community. This project has enriched the learning experience of our members, taught us about civic responsibility, the needs of our community members and the importance of caring for seniors; overall it has strengthened our community. Our team is diverse and all members play an instrument, play at least one sport and are community volunteers and student leaders. Our team looks forward to working together. We treat each other with kindness and respect and our diverse strengths and talents have allowed us to work well in small teams on specific aspects of the project such as letter writing, website design, developing graphics/documents to create posters, speaking with community leaders and presenting within our community.

Our team has created a website where seniors can log in to request assistance and volunteers can log in to offer their assistance. For example, some seniors may want to attend local church services or participate in activities at the local community center, but they don’t want to drive, or park their car or maybe they can’t easily walk from their parking space. Our website www.NYSeniorSolutions.com connects seniors with volunteers that are willing to help so that the seniors will be more independent, engaged and connected with their community. The website is available to seniors needing assistance and local volunteers that are willing to help. Interested volunteers can use our website to sign up to:
1. Transport seniors to local churches, community activities or grocery stores
2. Provide emergency pet sitting services if a senior needs to go to the hospital or can’t take care of their pet for medical reasons
3. Complete yard tasks like taking the trash out, mowing lawns/raking
