The YOUNGlings are a team of ten 4th-6th graders from Bernice Young Elementary School and Hellstern Middle School in Springdale, Arkansas, USA. For seven of us, it is our 2nd season in FLL, but for three of us, it is our rookie season. Our research coach is a 2nd grade teacher at Young, and our robotics coach is an engineering professor at the University of Arkansas. Our research was also mentored by an electrical engineering student from the University of Arkansas. For both the Food Factor and Senior Solutions seasons, we won the Champion’s Award at the Arkansas FLL Championship. Last season, we won the Rising Star Award at the FLL World Invitational at LEGOLAND Florida. This season, we are looking forward to representing Arkansas at the FLL World Invitational in St. Louis.

Brief Submission Description:
Nearly 1 in 7 seniors struggle with some type of memory loss. For seniors who are experiencing a short-term memory loss episode, reality orientation is a proven technique for helping them overcome the episode. During reality orientation, a caregiver presents a senior with basic information to help them regain their memory. But what about seniors who live alone and don’t have a caregiver to provide proactive support? We developed the FANCY Band for seniors who live alone and have mild short-term memory loss. The FANCY Band is a wristband worn by the senior. When a senior presses the button on the wristband, a call center is notified. An operator at the call center calls the senior and takes them through the process of reality orientation.
